Too few shipowners and freight forwarders have made the transition to mobile money in Africa, which will account for $912 billion in transactions by 2023. A significant proportion of potential customers, representing $180 billion in import-export transactions per year, are not covered, as they use mobile payment methods as a priority.
In addition, the African market is fragmented: the different legislation in each country and its complexity lengthen the time
it takes shipping operators to process cases and increase stopover costs.
To address these problems, Walar is also building two products:
Walar Pay
A financial service that enables shipowners to accept mobile payments from African customers and make automatic compensations to the shipowner's accounts.
Walar AI Copilot
A virtual assistant powered by generative AI that trains itself on historical data from cases successfully handled by shipping operators and provides accurate answers to questions posed by the operator in natural language to help them deal quickly with future queries.
Simplified management of container deposits.
A large proportion of shipper customers in Africa do not have the means to immobilise the deposits required by shipowners for the provision of containers. Moreover, container leasing contracts are manual, as is the management of these contracts. This lengthens the time taken to reimburse the deposit.
This is why Walar has set up Walar Grand Cautionneur, a web application that dematerialises the generation and management of container rental contracts and notifies shipowners and shipper clients in real time of changes throughout the life cycle of the contract.
